Classical Education
We value many of the time-tested tools found in classical education because they help students become thoughtful, articulate, and discerning learners. Rather than simply memorizing information, students are encouraged to understand ideas, ask good questions, and communicate truth with confidence. While our teachers have the freedom to choose the curriculum and methods that best fit their classes, many draw from classical resources such as IEW and other well-respected programs.
Although we appreciate many aspects of classical education, SWCFA is not affiliated with or modeled after Classical Conversations.
Elements we value and incorporate:
- Grammar, Logic, and Rhetoric (the Trivium)
- Memorization and recitation
- Logic and critical thinking
- Rich discussions and Socratic questioning
- Writing and persuasive communication
- Great books and primary source documents
- History taught chronologically
- Presentations, debates, and public speaking
