A Note From Kim

Kim Loomis, one of the founders of SWCFA wrote a note to current and future co-op families that encompasses the heart behind the co-op and how it was born out of a need for her and her family.

Dear Families,

There are three main reasons that really get to the heart of why Still Waters Christian Fellowship Academy was born: Christian homeschool community, meaningful classes for all ages, and freedom for teachers and families.

Over the years I have been blessed to be part of some wonderful homeschool communities and co-ops. They encouraged me in many ways, but I also experienced some challenges that many homeschool families face. As our families grow and our children reach different ages and stages, finding support that truly fits can be difficult. I often found that there were limited options for all of my children, requirements that made it difficult to choose what was best for my family, or teaching methods and curriculum choices that I could not fully embrace for my children.

Homeschooling is a beautiful calling, but it is also hard work. As parents we step into many roles when we choose this path, and we quickly realize we were never meant to carry those burdens alone. We need the Lord, and we need community. I believe homeschooling alongside other like-minded families can be a tremendous blessing because it supports parents in their role as teachers, creates fellowship for parents and students, and provides consistency and structure.

Psalm 23 has become the theme and heartbeat of our co-op. We desire for SWCFA to reflect the Lord's peace and provision, trusting that He protects and blesses His flock and faithfully leads us where we should go. With that heart in mind, we wanted to create a place where many hands could help lighten the burden families often feel to do it all themselves. We wanted to offer something that would meet homeschool families where they are.

Another important reason SWCFA began came from a practical need I experienced as a homeschool parent. High school classes can be difficult to find, especially classes that teach the content we hope our children will learn. I remember telling Rebekah that I was going to start a high school writing class the following year. She immediately shared the vision, and as we began collaborating, the Lord grew that small idea into something much larger. Together we began building a co-op that could serve children from pre-k through high school and bless many homeschool families.

From the beginning, freedom has also been deeply important to us. We want to give teachers freedom to teach what they love and teach in ways that allow their gifts to flourish. We want families to have options and flexibility while still preserving the beauty of community. We have found that when teachers are passionate about what they teach and families are supported rather than burdened, something special happens.

Above all, our desire is to point students and families toward Christ. We want SWCFA to be a place where truth, wisdom, fellowship, wonder, and joyful learning can thrive together. We hope each family who joins us feels accepted, supported, encouraged, and reminded that we are walking this journey together.

Grace and peace,

Kim
